Lavionic SORA SAIL Calculator

Answer up to eleven questions about your UA, the people below, the mitigations you claim and the airspace. The calculator shows the iGRC, the final GRC, the initial and residual ARC, the SAIL and the robustness of each OSO.

What you enter

  • The largest dimension, the maximum speed and the maximum take-off mass of the UA.
  • The highest population density in the iGRC footprint.
  • The ground risk mitigations you claim, each with its robustness: M1(A) sheltering, M1(B) operational restrictions, M1(C) ground observation and M2.
  • The airspace of the operation (AEC 1 to 12) and a strategic mitigation: VLOS or airspace observers, or a lower local air traffic density accepted by the competent authority.

What you get

  • The iGRC and the final GRC after the mitigations, in a bar figure.
  • The initial and the residual ARC.
  • The SAIL, marked in the SAIL table.
  • The robustness of each of the 17 OSOs for that SAIL: not required, low, medium or high.
  • An edit panel: change one answer and the result follows at once.

Online or offline

Use it online in your browser, or download it once as one HTML file. The file opens in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox, works without an internet connection and sends no data anywhere.

The calculator covers Steps #2 to #5, #7 and #9 of the SORA. Tactical mitigations, containment and the safety portfolio are not part of it. The competent authority accepts the mitigations and their robustness, and decides.

The calculator is an aid, not a means of compliance.
